By pure happenstance I downloaded Ben Bergeron’s new book “Chasing Excellence: A story about building the world’s fittest athletes” recently. I chose it for the title and I was hardly even paying attention to what I was choosing. I was just browsing the Kindle store for something to inspire me.
Well inspire me it does! I was hooked by half-way through the Forward.
Without even realizing it, I’d stumbled into a story about the 2015 & 2016 reigning Fittest Woman on Earth: Katrín Davíðsdóttir, whom I have admired wholeheartedly for a long time. In his book, Ben takes you on a journey through the character development that makes a champion.
According to Amazon:
“Using the dramatic competition between the top contenders at the 2016 Reebok CrossFit Games® as a background, Ben explores the step-by-step process of achieving excellence and the unique set of positive character traits necessary for leveling up to world-class. The mindset and methodology that have produced some of the greatest athletes in the world’s most gruelling sport can work equally well for golfers, lawyers, artists, entrepreneurs–anyone who’s willing to commit totally to becoming better than the best.”
I especially admire what Ben Bergeron calls the “unbreakable threefold policy” of his gym:
“Never whine. Never complain. Never make excuses.”
Highly recommended read.
